Touchscreen Drivers

Beetronics monitors do not require drivers for image display. This section applies only to touch functionality.

Beetronics touchscreens feature projected capacitive (PCAP) technology and support 10-point multi-touch. Touch functionality is enabled via USB:

When using the included USB-C to USB-A cable: Video is transmitted via HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA, and touch functionality is enabled via USB-A.
When using the included USB-C to USB-C cable: If your computer supports DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C, a single cable can provide video, audio, and touch (HID).

Please note: Both the source device and the cable must fully support DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB data transfer. Not all USB-C cables meet these requirements. Beetronics includes both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables by default to ensure compatibility.

Most operating systems natively recognize PCAP touchscreens via plug and play. In these cases, no driver installation or calibration is required, provided the display operates at its native resolution. For specific setups or older operating systems, driver installation or manual calibration may be necessary.

Touchscreen Calibration

Calibrating a Beetronics touchscreen varies by operating system. Most modern systems are plug and play and do not require calibration, provided the display is running at its native resolution. For older systems, non-standard resolutions, or specific configurations, calibration may be necessary to ensure the touchscreen functions correctly and accurately.

Calibration determines how the operating system interprets touchscreen input. This includes aligning touch points with the display, assigning touch input to the correct screen (in multi-monitor setups), and configuring touch behaviors such as single- or double-click actions, multitouch gestures, and touch sensitivity.

Accurate touchscreen performance depends on the alignment between the display settings and the touch input configuration. For optimal results, always use the monitor at its native resolution.

The following steps explain how to set the correct resolution and, if necessary, calibrate the touchscreen for each supported operating system.
Windows / Windows Embedded
Set the Native Resolution
1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
2. Choose the correct screen.
3. Next to Display resolution, select the option labeled (Recommended).
Perform Calibration
1. Open Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Tablet PC Settings.
2. Under Display, click Setup.
3. Tap on the touchscreen that you would like to calibrate (for multi-monitor setups).
4. Tap each indicated calibration point precisely.
5. Confirm and save the calibration.
macOS
Set the Native Resolution
1. Go to System Settings → Displays.
2. Select the Beetronics screen.
3. In the list of resolutions, select the option labeled (Default).
Perform Calibration
1. Download and install the UPDD Touchscreen Driver for macOS.
2. During installation, allow required permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility / Input Monitoring.
3. Launch the included calibration tool and follow the prompts in the wizard.
Linux
All Beetronics touchscreens are compatible with Linux, as the HID standard is widely supported. Beetronics does not supply its own Linux drivers as calibration is performed through the HID stack and third-party tools. Configuration may vary depending on the distribution.
1. Use xinput_calibrator, libinput or an equivalent tool.
2. For multi-monitor setups, ensure the correct display ID is selected.
3. Adjust the Coordinate Transformation Matrix if needed (for rotation or non-standard layouts).
4. Make settings persistent through your distribution’s configuration files.
ChromeOS
Set the Native Resolution
1. Go to Settings → Device → Displays.
2. Select the Beetronics display and verify it is set to the highest resolution available.
Perform Calibration

ChromeOS recognizes Beetronics touchscreens automatically via HID and typically requires no manual calibration. If the touchscreens aren't functioning properly, please follow the steps below:
1. Make sure the display is set to the highest/native resolution.
2. Restart the device.
3. Reconnect both USB (touch) and video cables.
BrightSign
Set the Native Resolution
1. Open BrightAuthor or your CMS.
2. Set the resolution and orientation according to the Beetronics display specifications.
Perform Calibration

BrightSign recognizes Beetronics touchscreens by default via HID and requires no additional calibration. If the touch input is not working properly:
1. Check the resolution and orientation settings in BrightAuthor or the CMS you are using.
2. If needed, adjust project touch settings.
3. Correct deviations at the application level, for example in HTML5 or JavaScript.
Samsung DeX
Set the Native Resolution
1. Open DeX settings.
2. Go to the Display / Screen resolution section for the connected monitor and select the highest (native) resolution available.
Perform Calibration

Samsung DeX supports Beetronics touchscreens natively via HID and normally requires no manual calibration.

Not every Samsung phone or tablet with DeX can send both video and touch over USB-C. The USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode for video and USB data for touch. The USB-C cable must also support both. If either the port or the cable does not, the monitor may show an image, but touch will not work.

If the correct ports and cables are used and the touchscreen still does not respond correctly, this can usually be resolved by:
1. Restarting the session.
2. Reconnecting the USB and video connection.
